At the end of 2004, Ministry of Environment started the project entitled "Implementation of EMAS in Poland – Technical Assistance" under Phare programme 2004S 167-144320, aimed at training the representatives of Polish competent bodies responsible for implementation of EMAS in Poland as well as environmental verifiers.

The project was implemented by consortium of companies including Royal Haskoning (Holland), LEMTECH Konsulting (Poland) and SEI (Estonia).

Under project activities, the consultants developed training materials and manuals and delivered training for representatives of public administration responsible for operation of EMAS system in Poland (Ministry of Environment, Polish Center for Accreditation, voivodship offices and regional environmental inspectorates) on practical aspects of EMAS system implementation.

Under project activities, there was also training delivered to a group of environmental verifier candidates who had an opportunity to get acquainted with EMAS requirements, practical aspects of verification audit performance and environmental statement approval. One of the elements of the training was also performing a preliminary environmental audit in a selected organization. The training ended up with an examination for verifier candidates on the understanding of environmental legislation and EMAS Regulation requirements. The participants who passed the exam had an opportunity to get PCA accreditation after submission of the application and necessary documents.

Within the "Implementation of EMAS in Poland" project, the EMAS website had been developed which has been made available on the Ministry of Environment server. On the webpage, one can find general information on EMAS, related legal acts and can take advantage of the interactive e-learning training courses on EMAS.

The Project officially ended up with a conference entitled "Readiness of Poland for EMAS Implementation" which was held in the Ministry of Environment on 15 December 2005.
